Poem: Among the trees - Sara Cassells
Among the trees is where you will find me
The loving reminder to simply be
Where the sounds of modern life disappear
Replaced instead by nature far and near
A long smooth inhale of clean fresh air
Melts away any lingering despair
The scent of Wild Garlic and Honeysuckle
and if so lucky, a glimpse of a squirrel scuttle.
Twigs snap beneath my feet
Birds overhead sing and tweet
A language I can only but enjoy
I hope they know they bring me joy.
So much to see in front of your eyes
But if you look up now there’s a surprise
The treetops sway and move and creak
As though they are all trying to speak.
The trees and plants and animals all connected
We are one in the same, together, nested
The energy between us sacred, must be protected
A mutual agreement, a promise kept and respected.
With each season bringing something new
A cycle for all, a chance to renew
An important reminder, a lesson to learn
That we too need rest if we plan to return.
The wave of calm washes over me now
It’s always within you, if you only allow
Nothing else matters, for here I am free
I am where I need to be.
I am home.
